Tae-Kwon-Do

Since some questions about Tae-Kwon-Do (chinese name 跆拳道) came up, I would like to give a short overview about this sport while also educating myself about it.

“Taekwondo (also written as “tae kwon do”, “taekwon-do” or “t’aegwondo”) is a modern martial art from Korea that is characterised by its fast, high and spinning kicks.”

There are the belts white (also my beltcolor right now), yellow, green, blue, red and black. Masters wear a black suit in addition to their black belt. In our Tae-Kwon-Do group on campus there is one master, about 8 black belt wearers, maybe 15 with red and around 70 students wearing other colors (the beginner group is approx. 30 students big).

There are two most popular forms of Tae-Kwon-Do, named according to their organizations: World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and International Taekwondo Federation (ITF). Here at university, I think we do WTF style Tae-Kwon-Do.

This is a demonstration of a group demonstrating some figures and defensive fighting in ITF style (10:43 min).

    Hallo, Arno! Anscheinend habe ich Teakwondo mit Aikido verwechselt, hast du das auch mal ausprobiert? Die Aufteilung der Gürtelfarben ist ebenso wie beim Judo, je dunkler, desto höher. Viel Spaß beim Üben!

    Hallo Mama. Aikido habe ich noch nicht ausprobiert, gibt es hier leider nicht. Was ich neben Tae-Kwon-Do probiert habe ist Wushu (eine spezielle Richtung nach Bruce Lee), Karate und Tai Chi Chuan. Reicht ja auch ;-) Versteh ich das richtig, dass du meinst, ich soll lieber was “Richtiges” mit Waffen und so machen? ;-)

    Hey Arno,
    liest sich wie immer sehr spannend. Wenn Du mit einem bunten Gürtel heimkommst, dann hab ich ja jemanden zum Üben, wir machen am besten in FB einen Teakwondo-Verein auf. War mal auf dem Niveau von grün-blau, also hau rein.
    Vergiss nicht Transrapid zu fahren, in München wird keiner gebaut und das ist echt genial (431km/h).
    Viel Spaß noch in Shanghai!!
